Jessica Atkins joined TriCity Family Services in 2021, after completing a year-long internship at Central DuPage Hospital’s Behavioral Health Services IOP and PHP programs. After earning her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Illinois State University, she earned her master’s in clinical mental health counseling from National Louis University.
Atkins enjoys working with adolescents and adults on a variety of issues such as anxiety, depression, transition difficulties, and much more. She has received training on the Family-Based Treatment (FBT) for Eating Disorders Program and also works with this population. Atkins’ approach to therapy is for the client to examine and challenge their own irrational thoughts and to understand how these thoughts affect their feelings and behaviors. She believes in focusing on clients’ strengths while empowering clients to make their own decisions and improve their communication with others. By creating a warm and open therapeutic environment, Atkins likes to provide a safe space for her clients to work through difficult situations and feelings.
In her free time, Atkins enjoys staying active, shopping, being outdoors, dancing, and spending time with friends and family.
