Sheena MacGowan joined TriCity Family Services as a therapist and Emotional Wellness Program facilitator in February 2024. She earned a Master of Social Work from Aurora University in 2023. Prior to that, she completed a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Berry College and a Master of Science in Athletic Training from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Sheena practiced as an athletic trainer at a high school in Georgia for a year and then Maryville College in Tennessee for several years. As an athletic trainer, Sheena had a passion for building relationships with people and helping people through difficult times. This is what led to her pursuing social work.
Sheena was an intern at Taking Control Counseling and partnered with Cities in Schools Aurora to provide counseling services within the school system. She then completed an internship with Teen Parent Connection as a health educator with the Prevention Program. Upon graduation, she accepted a position at Teen Parent Connection managing and facilitating young parent support groups.
Sheena pulls from many modalities using a client-centered, strengths-based approach to empower clients to effectively deal with life’s challenges. She additionally has training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and strongly believes in the healing powers of nature.
Outside of work, as a retired soccer player, Sheena enjoys gardening, yoga, running, and hiking, especially with her partner and two dogs.
